The AUS vs SA first ODI will be played on September 7 2023 at Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein. The match starts at 4.30 pm IST which is 1 pm local time. South Africa lost the T20I series to Australia 0-3 heading into this series. 

Mitchell Marsh will lead Australia without Pat Cummins who is ruled out of the AUS vs SA series with a wrist injury. He missed the T20I series with the same injury. 

Last-minute injuries to Mitchell Starc and Steve Smith have also ruled them out of the series. Smith is recovering from a tendon injury to his left wrist, while Starc is ruled out with groin soreness. Marnus Labuschagne replaces Smith in Australia’s ODI squad while Ashton Turner replaces him in the T20I squad. David Warner is back in the ODI squad after being rested from the T20I series. Josh Hazlewood will lead the Australian attack without Starc and Cummins. 

South Africa will be led by Temba Bavuma. He will also show the Protean 15-member side in the ODI World Cup in India later this year as well. Senior cricketers Quinton de Kock and David Miller are back for the ODI series after missing the T20IO series. De Kock has already announced his retirement from ODI cricket after the World Cup. He has already retired from Test cricket and will only play T20Is after the World Cup.
